Jamie Foxx confirmed that work is finally underway on his long-gestating film about boxer Mike Tyson. During an Instagram Live interview with Mark Birnbaum Wednesday, the Oscar-winner opened up about the project and showed off his chiseled upper-body in preparation for the project. Foxx said the goal of the film will be to show Tyson at the height of his career and his controversies outside the ring.

During the Instagram video, Birnbaum asked Foxx about the Tyson movie, which has been in the works for years. Foxx said the project is definitely happening, but noted how hard it can be to make biopics happen. "Doing biographies is a tough thing. Sometimes it takes 20 years to get them done, but we officially got the real ball rolling," the actor, who has an Oscar for playing Ray Charles in Ray, said. Foxx's comments on the Tyson movie start at about 53 minutes into the conversation.

Foxx, 52, said the filmmakers hope to show that everyone can evolve through Tyson's lens. There will also be plenty of technology used to make him look like a younger Tyson, 53. "I guarantee you, people will run up on me in the street and ask for an autograph and think that I'm Mike," Foxx, who is only a few months younger than Tyson, joked.

Foxx still has to undergo a physical transformation to prepare for boxing scenes. He does 60 pull-ups, 60 dips and 100 push-ups every other day, he told Birnbaum. "I ain't got no calf muscles, so we might have to get some prosthetics for that," he joked.

The Tyson project was first announced in Variety in July 2014. At that time, The Sopranos writer Terence Winter, who also earned an Oscar nomination for The Wolf of Wall Street, was signed to write the script. Rick Yorn, Foxx's manager, was set to produce. It was also not clear what parts of Tyson's life the film would center on, but based on Foxx's comments Wednesday, it appears they plan to cover as much as possible in a single film.

It looks like trouble is brewing for American power couple Jay-Z and Beyonce as it has been confirmed that Jamaican dancer and artiste, Dr. L’Antoinette Stines has filed a federal copyright infringement lawsuit against them.

The matter was heard yesterday June 16th in the United States District Court Central District of California.

According to Stines, the couple allegedly used her work for the song Black Effect, which was released in 2018 and was featured in Beyonce’s March tour of the same year. Stine said she feels “artistically raped” as she’s never received any proceeds or credit for the song. The song appears on The Carters’ 2018 album Everything Is Love.

In court, Stines said that in March of 2018 she was made aware that the couple was looking for local dancers to perform in a promotional video for a tour. She added that she recorded a clip in for them in which she talked about the concept of love, which she claims she was asked to do by them.

She said that she was told that the clip would only be used for promotional purposes and so she signed a contract to that effect. She claims that the same clip was then used as part of the song.

Her voice ended up on the track in the first minute.

Stines has also requested damages in the case as she believes that their use of her voice violated her right to publicity.

Stines is a well known Jamaican dancer, choreographer, author, actor, and director.

She leads the L’Acadco A United Caribbean Dance Force which is based in Jamaica.

Stines is also credited as the creator of the first Anglo Caribbean Modern Contemporary training procedure called L’Antech which is a Caribbean contemporary dance technique that draws inspiration from African influences and Caribbean folklore.

There has been no word from Beyonce and Jay-Z as of yet.

Twilight star Kristen Stewart is slated to play Princess Diana in an upcoming Pablo Larraín film, Spencer, that he described as a "fairy tale upside down” about the late royal, a move that has shocked many royal family watchers.

Spencer—a title taken from Diana’s maiden name—will cover three days Diana spent in Norfolk at the royal family’s Sandringham estate for Christmas as she faces existential questions about her marriage and place in the British royal family.

The casting went viral on Twitter shortly after the announcement, with many users criticizing the move and insisting Stewart is the wrong choice for the role of Diana, saying a British actress should have been chosen.

The film won’t delve into Diana’s tragic death in a Paris car accident in 1997, Larraín said, and will only dive into events imagined over Christmas Eve, Christmas and Boxing Day circa 1992, though a certain year isn’t specified in the film, adding, “We all know her fate, what happened to her, and we don’t need to go there. We’ll stay in this more intimate space where she could express where she wants to go and who she wants to be.”

Larraín previously directed Jackie (2006), the Jacqueline Onassis Kennedy biopic that won star Natalie Portman an Oscar nomination.

The 55-year-old actor is offering a 15-minute Zoom call to the highest bidder to benefit Camp Rainbow Gold, a service which provides "emotionally empowering experiences to Idaho’s children diagnosed with cancer and their families." Reeves has reportedly been quietly donating to cancer charities in honor of one of his sisters who battled leukemia.

The bidding for a date with the Speed star closes on Monday, June 22, and as of Tuesday, June 16, it was already up to $16,200.

The auction is part of a fundraising effort following an event that Camp Rainbow Gold had to postpone due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Also up for auction is a 15-minute private Zoom concert with Fifth Harmony's Ally Brooke.

Even before he was offering up his time for a good cause, Reeves was an internet heartthrob! Last summer, the beloved actor spoke with ET about what it's been like to have such a loyal fan base.

"It's been really nice and special for me. Just how well the John Wick film was received and then also recently with Always Be My Maybe and then being connected with CD Projekt Red," he shared. Since the coronavirus pandemic arrived on Jamaican shores, communities across the island have been urged to stay at home and self-isolate to flatten the curve of the deadly pneumonia-like virus, resulting in thousands being laid off, forced to navigate an uncertain landscape. Now, dancehall artistes Spice and Ding Dong are ramping up efforts to provide assistance.

Spice and Ding Dong recently joined forces with the support of several corporate brands such as Magnum Tonic Wine, J Wray, and Nephew (JWN) Foundation and Grace Foods to devise a community support initiative aimed at vulnerable groups most affected by the health crisis.

The initiative is set to benefit some 450 residents across selected communities and has raised more than $3 million in pledges.

With the economy suffering from a serious hit from the COVID-19 pandemic that has been projected to look direr in the next couple of months, Ding Dong says he is extremely elated to be able to assist those in need. “Giving back is something that we all have to do, my place this, from you say Ding Dong you say Nannyville,” he remarked.

“It’s a real joy to be able to do this with Magnum, Grace, Doorway Express and the Community Organization,” the artiste continued.

The initiative has also elicited the support of Doorway Express Courier Service and Nanny Community Organization who have offered their services to collate names and provide free delivery services.

Spice and Ding Dong both serve as Magnum ambassadors and have been lauded for recognizing the importance of assisting families who are in dire need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an Instagram post, Spice said “even tho I’m not physically in Jamaica I’m happy to have teamed up with @magnumtonicwine @gracehamilton_wef and @gracefoods to give back to my community OLD BEAETON.”

Though the pandemic has resulted in a temporary closure of the music and entertainment industry, affluent musicians have been making positive strides by giving back to those in need.

Bonnie Pointer, who in 1969 convinced three of her church-singing siblings to form the Pointer Sisters, which would become one of the biggest acts of the next two decades, died Monday.

The Grammy winner died of cardiac arrest in Los Angeles, publicist Roger Neal said. She was 69.

“It is with great sadness that I have to announce to the fans of the Pointer Sisters that my sister, Bonnie died this morning,” sister Anita Pointer said in a statement. “Our family is devastated, on behalf of my siblings and I and the entire Pointer family, we ask for your prayers at this time.”

Bonnie Pointer often sang lead and was an essential member of the group through its early hits including “Yes We Can Can” and “Fairytale.” She would leave for a short and modest solo career in 1977 as her sisters went on to have several mega-hits without her.

Ruth, Anita, Bonnie and June, born the daughters of a minister who also had two older sons, grew up singing in his church in Oakland, California.

It was Bonnie, shortly after graduating high school, who first wanted to move away from singing gospel songs into clubs to pursue a professional singing career.

“The Pointer Sisters would never have happened had it not been for Bonnie,” Anita Pointer said in her statement.

She convinced younger sister June to join her, and the two began doing gigs together as a duo in 1969. Eventually, they’d enlist their two older sisters, who were already married with children, to join them.

The quartet brought a unique fusion of funk, soul and 1940s-style jazz, scat and pop to their act, often dressing in a retro style that resembled their forerunners the Andrews Sisters.

They worked as backup singers for Taj Mahal, Boz Scaggs, Elvin Bishop and others before releasing their self-titled debut album in 1973, and the song “Yes We Can Can,” a funky anthem calling for unity and tolerance, became their breakout hit.

They followed up with “That’s A Plenty,” which featured an eclectic mix of musical styles ranging from jazz to gospel to pop.

They even delved into country. Bonnie and Anita co-wrote the song “Fairytale” about a crumbling relationship. The song earned them a groundbreaking gig performing as a rare African American act at the Grand Ole Opry, and they would win their first Grammy, for best country vocal performance by a group.

Bonnie Pointer left the group in 1977, signing a solo deal with Motown Records.

“We were devastated,” Anita Pointer told The Associated Press in 1990. “We did a show the night she left, but after that, we just stopped. We thought it wasn’t going to work without Bonnie.”

She would have only modest solo success. Her biggest hit was “Heaven Must Have Sent You,” a 1979 disco cover of an earlier Motown hit by the Elgins. It reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1979.

After making three albums for Motown, she would retire from the studio, and only perform occasionally.

Her three sisters, who had nearly disbanded when she quit, instead regrouped, shed their retro image for a modern pop sound, and became one of the biggest acts of the 1980s with huge hits including “He’s So Shy,” “Jump (For My Love)” and “Neutron Dance.”

Bonnie married Motown producer Jeffrey Bowen in 1978. The two separated in 2004 and divorced in 2016.

She twice reunited with her sisters for public appearances. Once in 1994, when they received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and again in 1996 at a show in Las Vegas.

“She had always told me, mother, I want something for myself,” Bonnie’s mother Sarah Pointer told Ebony in 1974. “I want to be somebody in this world.”

June Pointer, the youngest of the sisters, died in 2006.

In addition to Ruth and Anita, Bonnie Pointer is survived by her two older brothers, Aaron and Fritz.

Reggae artist Capleton is mourning the loss of his mother after she passes away at 73 years old.

The longtime star performer and recording artiste hails from St. Mary in Jamaica, which is where he reportedly was at the time when he received the sad news about his mother. According to The STAR, Capleton’s mother, Mabel Downer-Forbes, who was a strong Christian, had been living with diabetes but stayed medicated with prescription drugs instead of insulin. On Thursday, after her normal morning routine, she reportedly collapsed in her home.

Capleton’s manager Claudette Kemp told The STAR that the artist and his mother, who also goes by the moniker Mama Live were very close and even shared the same birth month. “Everyday is Mother’s Day for Capleton,” Kemp said. “His mother’s birthday falls on April 25, shortly after his, so them being born in the same month was also special. What would happen every year is that her church brethren would come to the house and celebrate with her,” she added.

Kemp also shared what happened on the morning of Mama Live’s death, expressing that all seemed normal at first before the 73-year-old passed out. “She was up and about doing her usual routine. She had her tea, made porridge for breakfast, and even ate some jackfruit,” Kemp explained about Capleton’s departed mother. “She wasn’t an insulin-dependent diabetic, she had tablets. But she was a very independent lady who ran her own show.”

Capleton is reportedly in mourning but seems to be holding up, according to his manager. She sounded dispirited as she reported on his current state, according to the Star. “As expected, he is grieving,” Kemp told the publication. “I haven’t seen him since, but we have been talking on the phone. All I can say is that he is keeping up.”

Michael Jackson’s niece was the victim of a hate crime that left her seeking medical attention from stab wounds.

Joe Jackson’s 25-year-old granddaughter Yasmine was reportedly hunted and stabbed multiple times by a racist woman who was hurling racial slurs at her. According to Yasmine, who had to get several stitches at the hospital, the unidentified woman chased her with a knife and stabbed her seven times while yelling that she was a “ni**er” during the assault.

Yasmine shared a graphic look at her face after the stab wounds to social media, along with a detailed account of the incident and a plea for the public’s help to get the white attacker to incur appropriate charges. “I was stabbed 7 times right by my house because ‘I’m a ni–er,'” Yasmine wrote. “This woman chased me down and started stabbing me. She said it’s because I was a ni**er and that’s all I could hear while I was being stabbed. I can’t move my neck at all. I’m scared to be alone.”

Yasmine, who is a practicing nurse, also explained that people seemed reluctant to help her at first, but she was relieved when they finally did. “I asked people to help me because she was stabbing me and nobody helped. Until someone did, actually a few people did & I am thankful for you. I pray to God that if you have any kind of hatred in your heart towards black people that you heal it,” she said. “I didn’t deserve this, nobody does. Oh & btw I’m still f**king proud to be black.”

In light of the recent brutal murder of George Floyd, tensions among races are high, and everyone is amped up in the fight against racism and inequality. Yasmine asked her followers to help her get the justice she deserves following the white assaulter being booked on a meager charge of felony battery with a deadly weapon. Though it was quite clearly a hate crime based on the attacker yelling “Ni***er!” that seemed to have slipped under the mat along with attempted murder charges.

“Please help me,” Yasmine implored. “They only are charging her with a felony battery with a deadly weapon. I feel like she deserves attempted murder and also this is a HATE CRIME. SHE CALLED ME A NI**ER & THERE ARE WITNESSES,” she wrote.

Yasmine’s mother is Joe Jackson’s daughter Joh’Vonnie Jackson who was reportedly close with her dad but not the rest of his side of the family. Joh’Vonnie took to social media to share an image of her daughter’s bra, which was soiled with blood from the hate crime. “Look what this Woman did to my daughter @yasminejackson_ she tried to kill my daughter for being Black,” she wrote. “My daughter has a good heart and has dedicated her time as a nurse to help others. She did not deserve this! F**k anyone who has enough hate in their heart to want to do this to anyone!”

Only in this bizarre country does a white woman hunt and stab a black woman and get to call her “ni**er” without it being acknowledged as a hate crime or an attempt to murder. We hope Yasmine gets the justice she deserves here and that the protests and organizations pooling together can actually make a difference and incite longlasting change.

Faith Evans could see herself facing some jail time for reportedly beating up her husband, Stevie J.

There was not so much love when police showed up to Faith Evans‘ home that she shares with husband Stevie J in the early hours of the morning. According to reports, the stars of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta had been engaged in an argument in their home in LA, but at some point, things turned violent. Officers turned up at approximately 1 AM and noticed visible marks and scratches on Stevie’s face, TMZ reported.

Faith was subsequently arrested and charged with felony domestic violence but did not spend too long in custody as she paid bail and was released the following day.

The couple’s almost 2-year marriage has had a few cracks along the way, but for a moment, it appears that they were going strong. They started out as friends in the ’90s when Faith was hesitant to take things to a romantic place for fear of spoiling their friendship. Stevie J did enough persuading, and they started dating a few years ago. Their relationship was met with some criticisms with some of her late ex-husband, Biggie Smalls‘ fans called them out.

Still, they fend off those criticisms, and Faith Evans and Stevie J tied the knot in July 2018. Split rumors emerged just a year later, however, when the married couple stopped following each other on social media, and Stevie posted cryptic tweets like, “All that glitters ain’t gold,” which led to the belief that there was trouble in paradise.

Five months later, the record producer claimed that his Twitter account had been hacked after a post declared, “Found [out] that NO woman is faithful. Knew that & it’s a blessing to know. The poster highlighted height(5ft 3 inches), hair(dreadlocks), the last date she was seen(May 23, 2020), the last place she was spotted(Washington Gardens, Kingston 20) along with her attire(Black top, brown skirt, and sandals).

The family is also offering a CASH REWARD for information leading to the safe return of Sister Watt, as she is affectionately called.

While there has not been a confirmation of her exact medical condition, persons have speculated that she is currently suffering from a type of dementia.

According to The World Health Organization, “dementia is a syndrome in which there is deterioration in memory, thinking, behaviour and the ability to perform everyday activities.”

Fans are gearing up for John Legend’s impending album “Bigger Love,” which is set to be released on June 19th. According to John, who made the announcement on the popular singing talent show The Voice, the album which was produced by Raphael Saadiq is available for pre-order now on Apple Music.

John previously admitted that he wasn’t sure if it was the right time to be releasing music due to the pandemic and the subsequent peculiarities that are affecting the globe. He was understandably worried that he wouldn’t be able to support the album with touring, performances, events, etc. but it is clear that he found a pocket even in the global crisis. He premiered a new video for the album’s title track “Bigger Love” on The Voice this week, and it featured videos submitted by fans just showing off their quarantine vibe.

John’s wife, Chrissy Teigen, and two children Luna and Miles also made appearances in the video that made for a small but heartwarming gesture by the Grammy-winning singer in this unprecedented time. Some would even say it was necessary to remind people to keep their heads up. It sounds like John Legend’s new album will be perfect for the homebodies.

According to Billboard, both records were sure to emerge in the top 2 as they competed for the No. 1 spot.

It is now official that Nicki Minaj has earned her first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 as did the “Say So” hitmaker Doja Cat. “Savage” was propelled from the No. 4 spot to No. 2 which is the highest that Megan Thee Stallion has ever charted which is something to celebrate for her as well. Following the Houston girls’ smash hit remix is “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd which has been charting in the top 5 for 23 weeks. Doja Cat had her highest-charting hit when she premiered “Say So” which made the top 5 before the remix helped it to surge to the No. 1 position this week. The original “Say So” music video which premiered on February 27, was already doing crazy 8-figure numbers in the little time it was released and has now garnered over 105 million views on YouTube.

Doja Cat had promised that she would show her boobs on Instagram if she actually copped this No. 1 so fans are eagerly awaiting her to make good on that promise.

One month after he disappeared from Instagram, the Unruly Boss is back, but without his crowning glory, bald as a cricket ball.

Popcaan has shaved off his signature hair which was often styled to resemble pieces of “popcorn”. The move, which has caused tongues to be wagging about his new image, has also left many of his female fans in disbelief.

The Raving artiste, who hails from St. Thomas, posted three full-length photos of himself earier today on his IG page, clad in monochromatic black, with his hair closely cropped, which he captioned “RAPID eh UP!!!”.

However, due to the angle from which the photo was taken and the distance, it was not immediately clear to fans whether he had actually made the clean cut.

Some female fans openly expressed their displeasure that he had shorn his mane, while some said the photos appear to be part of a prank, and asked for a close-up shot of his head. Others said they were sure he had slicked back his hair in a ponytail and demanded that he pull it out or upload a photo of a side view of his head.

Some fellow entertainers were in equal disbelief. Shenseea commented, “Buh” on the post which attracted over 10,000 comments in 5 hours, while Protoje questioned, “What’s happening here??”.

Popcaan’s sister Unruly Squid and dancehall artiste Jada Kingdom agreed that the new look was “sharp” and “dappa”, while his protégé Quada said, “Judah papa skull”.

Some fans though, appeared ambivalent about the new haircut opting to tell the Vanquish artiste, who had taken a break from Instagram since April 12, that they missed him as he had been offline for some time now much to their dismay after feuding with former friend and producer NotNice last month. Others claimed that he looked like a little schoolboy, while some wanted to know whether he had lost a bet and had to cut his hair as a result.

“Coronavirus just cutting everything for real, restaurant dining, hotel sector, jobs, party and other social gatherings. I mean Popcaan hair and all gone,” one fan said, while a male fan quipped: “quarantine is really getting to our heads.”

But the 31 year old seems to be enjoying the jokes being made at his expense, as three hours later he posted two memes, one comparing him to Lil Bill and the other made by a fan of an unpopped popcorn kernel to which he compared Popcaan’s new hairstyle, and another of the artiste sporting a Central African Republic hairstyle which he compared to a popped grain of corn.

The Good Times singer has been sporting his signature long hair ever since he burst onto the dancehall scene as a part of Vybz Kartel’s Gaza camp.

The artiste, whose given name is Andrae Sutherland, has the distinction of being dancehall’s wealthiest son under 35 years old. Over the years, his hairstyles have ranged from fat plaits to afros, snails eye, corn rows, braids, twists, vertical cornrows and ponytails among others.

Princess, 35, filed for divorce from the musician turned reality star, 39, after nearly four years of marriage on Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, TMZ and E! News reported Thursday.

Dexta Daps has been released from jail.

April 30 is proving to be a day of jubilation for the Seaview Garden’s singjay, who was recently released from custody.

Peter Champagnie, the attorney at law who represents the entertainer, revealed to the Jamaica Star that no formal charges were laid against his client, whose real name is Louis Anthony Grandison Jr. Dexta Daps was arrested by law enforcement on April 8 on shooting and gang-related ties after a major flair-up of violence in the Seaview Garden area. According to some accusations, Dexta Daps operated as the ‘don’ of the area, calling the shots on various criminal activities.

The takedown was captured by scores of persons who converged on the dusty community streets, defying social distancing protocols to protest his arrest. Now that he is free, the protest continues in a different form, with persons lashing out against the length of time he spent in lockup. One person asked, “So them hold the man fi so many weeks without evidence?” Before casting blame on “the system the system.”

Nonetheless, fans are quite ecstatic to know the “Flight Mode” singer is back home. Dexta was truly nabbed out of the blue and was marched into the police service vehicle sporting a sleeveless muscle shirt, denim shorts, and slippers. Naturally, his career was also stopped dead in its tracks. However, it was more noticeable due to the artiste premiering a new track just days before his arrest. The lyrics of the song motivate females to ‘break’ away from tumultuous relationships. With catchy lyrics and smooth melodies, the song seemed destined to be another hit track. Many of Dexta’s female fans are anxiously awaiting his return to the studio in order to complete the song.

Legendary dancehall artist Buju Banton has officially announced his upcoming album, “Upside Down 2020” in a new video message to his fans.

Banton had previously announced the title of the album as “Upside Down”, but in the video, he gave fans the significance of the updated title of the project.

Why “Upside Down” ?

The artist explained in the video, saying, “I perceive from what I’ve seen from my emergence as being upside down. In other words, we as people no longer possess things. These things we think we possess, they now possess us”. The deejay said many things are not as they ought to be and “mankind is in a state of disarray”.

As for why he added “2020” to the official album title, Banton said outside of it representing the year, “2020 has a deeper understanding in my mind. It resonates with a clear vision and seeing things for what it is”, he said.

The other significance is that there will be 20 tracks on the album.

The album will be his 13th studio album – – his first since Before the Dawn in 2010, which won a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album one year later. Last month, fans were gifted the first single on the project Ganja Man, which was released on 4/20.

Despite the album being pushed back (it was initially set for an April release), Buju Banton has kept fans satisfied with a string of singles and features, including the most recent “Dangerous City“- a collab with dvsn and Ty Dolla $ign, a remix of “Trust” with Tory Lanez, and “Murda She Wrote” which was featured on the “Bad Boys For Life” movie soundtrack.

The deejay also been teasing the new project on Instagram, with a blurred-out tracklist photo.

Back in February, he also shared via Instagram that he was in the studio with popular American music producer and artiste, Pharrell Williams. The post has sparked excitement among fans that believe Pharrell will produce music on Buju’s project. In November 2019, Popcaan also shared a pic of the two in the studio together evidently making music and sharing a friendly exchange with the caption, “Stay tuned for di fire tune”.

Irrfan Khan, an Indian actor who appeared in the Oscar-winning movie “Slumdog Millionaire” in 2008 as well as many other films in India, Britain and the U.S., died Wednesday in a Mumbai hospital, according to reports. He was 53.

Khan had been admitted for treatment for a colon infection, The Times of India reported.

Besides playing a police inspector in “Slumdog Millionaire,” the hit British movie about a young man who wins the top prize on a TV game show, Khan was also known to U.S. audiences for appearances in action films such as “The Amazing Spider-Man” (2012) and “Jurassic World” (2015).

He also starred in the Ang Lee-directed 2012 adventure film “Life of Pi,” which was nominated for a Golden Globe award for best picture.

In 2018, Khan disclosed on Twitter that he had been diagnosed with an endocrine tumor, a condition that releases hormones into the bloodstream, the BBC reported.

After later writing about his experience with cancer treatment, he received a massive outpouring of support from fans around the world, the report said.

“Surrounded by his love, his family for whom he most cared about, he left for heaven above, leaving behind truly a legacy of his own. We all pray and hope that he is at peace,” a statement from Khan’s publicity firm said.

In 2013, Khan won an Indian National Film Award for his role in “Paan Singh Tomar,” a film about a top athlete who later turns to crime, the BBC reported.

Khan’s final film was “Angrezi Medium,” a recently released Indian movie about a father’s relationship with his daughter, The Times of India reported.

Sneed’s publicist, Bill Carpenter, said the singer died early Monday at a hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Sneed earned a Grammy nomination for his work on the Youth For Christ’s 1999 album, “Higher.”

Sneed traveled throughout the United States early in his career to sing the gospel with the Georgia Mass Choir. He arranged music on their albums and appeared with the choir in 1996 film “The Preacher’s Wife,” starring Whitney Houston and Denzel Washington.

Sneed helped form Youth For Christ, which was comprised of members between the ages of 12 and 18 from the Georgia Mass Choir. He served as a producer on Youth For Christ’s “The Struggle Is Over,” which landed at No. 1 on Billboard’s gospel songs chart in 2006.

As a solo artist, Sneed released seven albums and had several hit songs within the gospel realm including “Work It Out” and “My Heart Says Yes,” which both peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s gospel chart. He’s also known for the upbeat “Hallelujah.”

Sneed and his wife, Emily, started their own record label, Emtro, which is a blend of their first names. Their label became a success with a roster of artists from Alvin Darling & Celebration and Rev. Rudolph McKissick.

Netflix and Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company have announced their latest film: “Becoming,” a documentary that follows Michelle as she goes on tour to promote her bestselling memoir of the same name.

Although the documentary was directed by Nadia Hallgren, it sounds like the film had extensive access to and input from Michelle Obama . After all, it was produced by Higher Ground Productions, the company the Obamas formed to create content for Netflix, Spotify and others.

And the announcement comes with a letter from Obama, in which she says this wasn’t just a standard book tour: “In groups large and small, young and old, unique and united, we came together and shared stories, filling those spaces with our joys, worries, and dreams.”

“American Factory,” the first film to come out of Higher Ground’s production deal with Netflix, won this year’s Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.

While Netflix and Higher Ground only announced the film today, it won’t be a long wait for its release — Netflix plans to launch “Becoming” in just over a week, on May 6.

Lil Wayne it taking to the air to free your mind. The rapper announced on Tuesday (April 21) that he will host the first episode of Young Money Radio on Apple Music on Friday (April 24).

The show is slated to kick off at 7 p.m. EST and Weezy promises "heavyweights calling in discussing sports, music, comedy, everything!"

The first few minutes of the show will start on Instagram Live and then shift over to Apple Music for the full broadcast. Back in 2017, Weezy announced that he'd partnered with Dash Radio to launch the first incarnation of Young Money Radio. At press time no lineup was announced for the first episode of the new series.

Dancehall Artiste Dexta Daps will remain behind bars until at least next Monday, April 20th, after his application for bail was not heard in court today.

The popular artiste, whose real name is Louis Grandison, was arrested on April 8th by members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

Videos of his arrest went viral on social media and he was seen being led away in handcuffs by several armed cops in the Seaview Gardens community. He’s been in custody since.

The matter was heard today and his lawyer, QC Peter Champagnie gave an update on the situation including that his hearing had been pushed back to Monday, April 20th.

Champagnie explained that there were a number of factors that influenced the decision to have Daps remanded, including the long holiday weekend.

According to the police, Dexta Daps and several other people were brought for questioning with regard to gang-related activities in the St Andrew South area.

Champaigne said: “What I can say is that the matter was heard this morning having filed a writ of habeas corpus. It was heard before the Parish judge in the Cooperate area judge, Halfway Tree and the arguments have been advanced. The judge has put the matter to continue for this Monday 20th of April.”

He added that on Monday he will be given a chance to present his arguments and the police will be in attendance.

“On that occasion, it is expected that the police will be in attendance, they were not in attendance this morning because of a number of factors including the fact that the long holiday period did not afford for sufficient service in terms of notification.”

The attorney also revealed that he was not satisfied with a number of circumstances surrounding the artiste’s detainment.

“I would say the assertion is that he is detained under the State of Emergency. I have grave reservations in relation to that and I have formulated my argument to meet that particular assertion but those are assertions best left for the courtroom,” he said. There is still no word on what exactly he has been charged with.

Lovely Day and Ain't No Sunshine - has died from heart complications his family said in a statement. He was 81.

The three-time Grammy Award winner, who withdrew from making music in the mid-1980s, died on Monday in Los Angeles, the statement said.

His death comes as the public has drawn inspiration from his music during the coronavirus pandemic, with health care workers, choirs, artists and more posting their own renditions on Lean On Me to help get through the difficult times.

'We are devastated by the loss of our beloved, devoted husband and father. A solitary man with a heart driven to connect to the world at large, with his poetry and music, he spoke honestly to people and connected them to each other,' the family statement read.

'As private a life as he lived close to intimate family and friends, his music forever belongs to the world. In this difficult time, we pray his music offers comfort and entertainment as fans hold tight to loved ones.'

The three member panel of judges at the Jamaican Court of Appeal have dismissed the appeal case by dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel and his three co-convicts who were sentenced for murder.

Appeal Court Judges Frank Wiliams, Dennis Morrison, and Patrick Brooks this morning affirmed the 2014 murder conviction of Kartel and his co-convicts but they have given defense attorneys 7 days to submit documents for them to consider a reduction in sentence for the convicted men.

The verdict was delivered over a conference call with Attorneys and prosecutors involved in the appeal in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Kartel, André St John, Shawn Campbell (also known as dancehall artiste Shawn Storm), and Kahira Jones were sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams. Williams’ body was never found.

Vybz Kartel had received the harshest sentence, requiring him to serve at least 35 years before being eligible for parole. Storm, St John and Jones were ordered to serve 25 years each before being eligible for parole.

Kartel’s lawyers argued that he did not get a fair trial and that sentencing was excessive. They assert that the deejay was not at the scene on the day the murder took place and cited discrepancies with the GPS data obtained from Kartel’s cell phone. Bert Samuels, who represents Shawn Storm, said “The second was the allegation by the foreman of the jury that all members of the jury were being approached to give a certain verdict, rendering him unfit. That man was unfit to sit and deliberate with the jurors and come with an independent and impartial verdict, guaranteed by the Constitution.”

Following the conference call, Vybz Kartel’s attorney Valerie Neita Robinson said that the Judges’ request for additional documents and information is in her opinion an indicator that they have already decided to reduce his sentence.

She said the team will be approaching the Privy Council in London to secure the artiste’s acquittal.

Dancehall/Reggae and Hip-Hop are no strangers to each other and they have once again collaborated to produce the remix to R&B artiste Alicia Keys’ new single “Underdog”, which was released today featuring Jamaicans Chronixx and Protoje.

“Underdog Remix”, which is an alternate version to the latest single released from Keys’ upcoming album titled Alicia, starts with a traditional African dub melody or chant and transcends smoothly into the militant sounds of seasoned Reggae musician Protoje, who leads listeners through the first verse. The chorus and second verse are harmoniously delivered by Alicia, who speeds up the tempo in the song’s second verse to deejay over the Latin-inspired beat. After a brief melodic bridge, renowned Reggae musician Chronixx belts out the third verse and expertly switches flow from his usual sultry pipes to thrill listeners with a rapid Dancehall delivery.

Similar to the message conveyed in Dancehall artiste Baby Sham’s “Ghetto Story”, featuring Alicia in 2006, “Underdog Remix” defends the human ability to fight the odds against them to chase and realize one’s dreams. The song, which already has over 14,000 views on YouTube since its premiere early this morning, is expertly written by Alicia in collaboration with five contributors including popular English musician and songwriter, Ed Sheeran.

It’s seamless and professional production was jointly engineered by Jamaican producer IzyBeats – who produced Koffee’s hit Reggae single “Toast” – and London-based Nigerian producer Pro2Jay aka P2J.

Keys officially announced the release of “Underdog Remix” with a 38-second video uploaded to her Twitter and Instagram accounts on Wednesday showing herself, Chronixx, Protoje and her production team in the studio crafting the new single.

Both Chronixx and Protoje responded to the announcement a day later through posts to their accounts. Chronixx uploaded the same video to his Instagram profile with the caption, “Worriz in the dance”; and Protoje replied to Keys’ announcement on Twitter saying, “Bless up again Queen. R. Kelly wants out of prison because he fears contracting coronavirus.

Coronavirus seems to have become the latest excuse for rappers to try and earn a “get out of jail early” card. First, we had Tekashi 6ix9ine wanting out of prison, and now R.

Kelly appears to have been faking tips. R. Kelly has called Chicago’s Metropolitan Correctional Centre home for the last few months as he awaits trial for multiple sexual assault charges. The “In the Closet” singer is due to appear in court in Chicago next month and in New York in July on charges of child sexual exploitation, child pornography production, kidnapping, forced labor, and obstruction of justice.

Less than two weeks ago, Kelly was also charged with passing on a sexually transmitted disease to two women whom he slept with but did not inform that he had herpes.

Now, as his day in court looms, the 53-year-old wants to be released from prison as he fears contracting Coronavirus, TMZ reported. Despite correctional services across the United States enforcing strict measures to ensure that inmates are protected from the pandemic, R. Kelly doesn’t believe that this is enough. Citing overcrowding as making it impossible to practice WHO-suggested social distancing, the artist also claimed that only prisoners with enough money can purchase soap at the commissary. “No matter what steps they take the sanitation will be substandard, the risk of an internal pandemic at the MCC is great,” wrote Kelly’s lawyer, Steve Greenberg, in a letter to the judge.

6ix9ine, who is currently serving time at the Queens Detention Centre, is also concerned that the deadly virus will reach him, following a case of COVID-19 reported at Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn. The “Stoopid” rapper is afflicted with asthma and has also been hospitalized for pneumonia in the past, making him vulnerable to infection. Tekashi is hoping that his lawyer’s appeal will get him out earlier than his scheduled release date of August 2nd, 2020.

Elephant Man is looking at some possible jail time for lying to immigration about COVID-19.

A few days ago, dancehall deejay Elephant Man took to social media to share his side of the story about what happened at the Sangsters International airport that eventually led to him being sought after by the Minister of Health and law enforcement. Elephant Man also apologized profusely in his videos for failing to accurately list all his travel destinations amidst the worldwide pandemic of the coronavirus, COVID-19.

Sadly for Ele, the apology was not enough as a law enforcement team rolled up to his premises and charged the “No Junjo” deejay along with serving him a summons.

The dancehall icon has been charged with breaching Section 8(5) of the Immigration Act, which mandates that people who are arriving on the island of Jamaica, to give honest testimonies to Immigration authorities at the various ports/airports of disembarkation. While Elephant Man has confessed that he has not left his house since making his way from the airport, he will be required to appear in court on April 15 to answer to his charges. According to Loop News, a source close to the situation mentioned, “He will be forcefully placed in a government-mandated quarantine facility beginning today.”

The fine connected to the offense in question is JMD$100.00. With such a small fine, the accused has to look at what other negatives could be derived from the situation. Elephant Man’s concerns should now turn to the fact that he may see himself having a criminal record if he is convicted of his crimes. This could lead to fewer bookings and a possibility of his massive comeback being halted due to disgruntled fans.

Elephant Man has already picked up a severe social media bashing following the incident, with many highlighting that the artiste showed his selfish side instead of thinking about the good of the people of Jamaica. Ludacris and his nonprofit organization Ludacris Foundation which was founded in 2001, has united with The Head Foundation to make a generous donation to people in need in the Bahamas.

Ludacris and his foundation donated $200,000 worth of clinical gear and medical supplies to the country. The donation, which includes 100,000 masks, is a significant gift to help the Bahamas clinical group during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Bahamas has been through a lot of catastrophic events lately, and a lot of celebrities are turning their sights to the cluster of tiny islands for their donations. Hurricane Dorian was a natural disaster that really took a toll on the beautiful Bahamas just last year, and residents are likely unsettled with the fear associated with the novel coronavirus.

After the hurricane, Ludacris raised over $100,000 from LudaDay, his foundation’s fundraiser, and gave some supplies to the Bahamas then as well. Some of the donations from last year were gloves, dental units, insulin, masks, cleanliness packs, water units and more to help the nation to recoup from Hurricane Dorian.

The founder of Head Foundation met with Ludacris and his team to officially plan the relief aid for the people of the Bahamas amidst this coronavirus global pandemic. The rapper says he hopes that this will be a great help for the country. “We really had the desire to meet those medical teams on ground face to face – thank them for the arduous task still at hand,” the Atlanta rapper said in a statement released to the press. Ludacris also plans to help out in more missions that aid the country as well.

“It is so important for foundations to work hand in hand and help each other to keep pushing forward to one common goal,” president of Ludacris Foundation, Roberta Shields said.

Eniko Parrish made the announcement via her Instagram on Tuesday (March 24) when she shared a photo of her growing baby bump while informing her followers that there is a bun in the oven.

The 35-year-old donned a sheer halter dress showcasing her baby bump and toned physique. “Baby #2 in the midst of all of this we’re counting our blessings and couldn’t be more grateful! soon to be a family of 6! #glowingandgrowing,” she wrote.

Kevin Hart also shared the same photo with a couple hashtags. “#Harts #FamilyOfSix #Blessed #LiveLoveLaugh,” he wrote. The actor and Eniko Parrish already have a 2-year-old baby boy name Kenzo, but Hart has a 12-year-old son, Hendrix Hart, and a 15-year-old daughter, Heaven Hart, with his ex-wife Torrei Hart.

Kevin and Eniko have been through quite a lot over the past few years but managed to work out their relationship turbulence after being rocked with a cheating scandal and then a crash that left the comedian severely injured. Since then, Hart and his wife made a decision to expand their family. This is certainly great news for the Hart family and their fans amidst the coronavirus pandemic. Sometimes we all need a bit of good news to down out the horrific headlines dominating the news cycle.

Our only hope now is that the COVID-19 pandemic will be over by the time the baby arrives later this year.

Rihanna's foundation has donated $5 million to various organizations assisting with coronavirus relief efforts.

The Clara Lionel Foundation announced the donation in a statement on Saturday.

"When we first began this year, never could we have imagined how (the coronavirus) would so dramatically alter our lives," the foundation said.

"It doesn't matter who you are or where you're from, this pandemic will affect us all. And for the world's most vulnerable, the worst may be yet to come."

The foundation donated the money to Direct Relief, Feeding America, Partners in Health, The World Health Organization's COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund and the International Rescue Committee, among others.

The foundation said its goal is "to immediately mobilize a broad response working with on-the-ground partners."

The funds will go towards local food banks, accelerating testing in countries like Haiti and Malawi, and protective equipment for frontline health workers.

The donation will also help protect Native communities by providing them with resources to fight the virus.

Rihanna started the Clara Lionel Foundation in 2012. The nonprofit organization, named in honor of her grandparents, funds education and emergency response programs around the world.

Other celebrities -- including Justin Timberlake, Donatella Versace and many NBA players -- have also donated funds to help schools, hospitals and food banks overwhelmed by the pandemic.

After a jury found Katy Perry committed copyright infringement against Christian rapper Flame last July, the judge in the case ruled that the pop singer wasn't guilty after all and will not have to cough up a $2.78 million judgment.

According to legal documents obtained by XXL, on Tuesday (March 17), the judge in the case of Marcus Gray a.k.a. Flame vs. Katy Perry vacated the jury's previous decision from 2019, which had agreed that Perry's "Dark Horse" copied elements of Flame's track "Joyful Noise." This means that Perry and her collaborators, Dr. Luke and Max Martin, do not have to pay up the hefty amount of money to Flame. Judge Christina A. Snyder concluded that if an appeals court disagrees with her ruling, then she would "conditionally grant a new trial."

“The court agrees that the uncontroverted evidence points to only one conclusion: that none of these individual elements are independently protectable," Judge Snyder wrote.

In his lawsuit, Flame asserted that Perry and her team of collaborators swiped an eight-note pattern, known as an ostinato, from Flame’s song "Joyful Noise" and used it for Perry's 2013 hit "Dark Horse." Flame claimed that his reputation as a Christian rapper was damaged by the “anti-Christian witchcraft, paganism, black magic, and Illuminati imagery evoked by ‘Dark Horse.’"

Back on July 29, 2019, the jury agreed with Flame's claim that Perry and her team copied the instrumental to “Joyful Noise” for “Dark Horse.” They decided that Katy was liable for $550,000, the song’s producer Dr. Luke was responsible for $60,000 and songwriter Max Martin was ordered to pay $250,000.Then, on Aug. 1, 2019, the jury decided that 22.5 percent of the profits made from “Dark Horse” should be awarded to Flame as well as the other plaintiffs his co-writers—Emanuel Lambert and Chike Ojukwu—bringing the total to $2.78 million. However, thanks to the judge's recent ruling, Perry and her team will not have to pay up.

The announcement was made to fans in the form of a music video release on an Instagram Live session during which Katy Perry had an intimate chat with her followers about her long-kept secret and the experience of pregnancy. In the video for her ballad, “Never Worn White”, Katy shows off her round belly while wearing a white dress and singing about marrying the love of her life.

The lyrics celebrate their romance, saying, “You love the Hell out of me/And Heaven’s where we could be/I’ve stood on the edge of love/But never took the leap/And you took my armor off/And did it delicately/And I let my guard down/To show you what’s underneath.”

After the video premier, Katy sat down for a chat on Instagram Live, to talk about the big reveal and share in the excitement of her fans. She explained that keeping such a significant secret was no easy task, and went on to announce new music, saying, “There’s a lot that will be happening this summer. Koffee inked a major deal with RCA Records days after her historic Grammy win.

The Grammy kid Koffee is looking to spread her musical wings across North America in a more elaborate way this year. To do so, she is initiating a new gear with her record company to bring major North American players, RCA into the mix. Koffee has been signed to Columbia records since 2018, and the team has seen tremendous growth from that deal, especially in the UK market.

During an interview with the Observer, Ferdy Unger-Hamilton, president of Columbia UK, mentioned the dynamics of the current deal, “Koffee is signed to Columbia UK for the world, but the US licensee is RCA Records.” He also mentioned that the plans and goals to market Koffee will not differ from what is being done in the UK and other parts of Europe, “The direction will not change. We will simply try to replicate in the US what we have done in the UK.”

Both RCA and Columbia records fall under the umbrella of Sony Corporation of America, which also houses subsidiaries Arista Records and Epic Records. RCA should allow for a massive push in the US market and with her recent Grammy win and numerous appearances such as MTV’s Wild ‘N Out, Koffee could become a household name in America.

The “Toast” singer copped the Grammy Award for her debut EP Rapture, which was released by Columbia Records UK back in March 2019. The record also did pretty well in the US, racking up over 4,800 copies according to Nielsen Music scale.

“Toast,” the lead single from the project ended up almost everywhere, including the playlist of Barrack Obama. It reached a cool number 70 on the UK Pop charts and 43 on the US Billboard Magazine’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Chart.

“W” also hit the mark in the UK last year December, as the collaboration with US-based rapper Gunna reached number 82 on the Pop charts. It’s evident that the young Jamaican queen has been putting in the work since the start of the year, collaborating with British rapper J Hus on a track titled “Repeat.” There have also been videos of herself and African Giant Burna Boy working on their collaboration. Koffee’s growth is nothing short of exciting, and her fans could be in for even more goodies with the recent announcement from Ferdy Unger-Hamilton.

The label executive confirmed that Koffee’s debut studio album will be released sometime this year.

Vanessa Bryant has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the helicopter company responsible for the crash that lead to Kobe Bryant and Gianna’s death.

Vanessa Bryant is still battling the pain, anger, and grief that one faces after losing not just her husband Kobe Bryant, but also her daughter Gianna, during the helicopter crash that killed seven additional persons on January 26, 2020. TMZ obtained documents that confirm that Vanessa and her legal team consisting of Brad D. Brian of Munger, Tolles & Olson, and Gary C. Robb of Robb & Robb filed a recent lawsuit. The suit centers around the fact that the Calabasas crash should not have happened in the first place if the proper rules and guidelines had been followed by the pilot and the company, Island Express.

According to the documents, Island Express was only approved to fly in visually clear skies, which were quite the opposite of the conditions on that day. Sadly, the fog remained pretty low over the area, making it hard for the pilot to properly fly the aircraft. This could explain the reason for the craft flying at speeds of over 180 miles per hour in a steep decline, a short time before it crashed.

The lawsuit listed a handful of missteps the pilot took such as, not monitoring the weather before takeoff, not seeking the correct weather information before the flight, not pulling the plug on the flight after the weather and foggy conditions were noticed, along with failing to maintain control of the helicopter and to avoid the “natural obstacles” in the path of the craft.

Among the evidence being compiled against the company, it was revealed that the pilot Ara George Zobayan was penalized in 2015 for violating a similar rule of flying in an area with reduced visibility.

While the actual amount being requested has not been revealed, the suit will seek damages for “Pre-impact trauma, Kobe and GiGi faced, for loss of love, affection, care, society, service, comfort, support, right to support, companionship, solace or moral support and expectations of future support,” counseling and burial services.

Doorbell cameras let you see who’s at the door, check on packages and they’ve even helped to save lives, but can a doorbell camera help to sell shoes? That’s the hope behind a head-scratcher of a campaign from Cardi B and Reebok.

Released Thursday, a new promotional clip features the rapper strutting down the sidewalk, runway-style, to deliver Reebok’s new Zig Kinetica sneaker to an unidentified homeowner. The footwear fashion show is all “captured” on the homeowner’s doorbell camera, with half a dozen models sporting Cardi B masks as they prance and twerk their way to the door. Cardi arrives towards the end, rocking a workout bra and leggings (made by Reebok of course) and showing off some Hustlers-esque dance moves while holding the new shoe. (It’s worth noting that Cardi actually tosses the shoe away, so it never arrives on the recipient’s doorstep).

Reebok said it released the doorbell runway show to coincide with fashion month, though the connection between home surveillance equipment and workout shoes is less clear. In a statement, the athletic brand patted itself on the back for being “the first fashion brand to tap into these unexpected social networks,” adding that people can “expect more doorbell cam runway shows over the coming weeks.” Is ding-dong the new TikTok?

The whole campaign arrives with the #ZigTheRunway hashtag, and Cardi dutifully provided a quote that tries to tie the whole collaboration together.

“Zig the Runway is about being unexpected and unapologetic about your style,” Cardi explained in a statement. “I always do me and keep people guessing and that’s what we’re showing off in this video. [The] Reebok Zig Kinetica isn’t like any other shoe that’s come before it and this fashion show is like nothing that has come before it. We’re breaking the mold and blazing our own trail — that’s what Reebok is about.”

The new shoe is an updated take on Reebok’s “ZigPulse” silhouette, first released in 2010. The brand said the new sneaker “fuses innovative sport tech with sleek style to create a highly functional shoe that seamlessly transitions from gym to street.” The workout shoe gets its name from a zigzag-shaped sole that “channels and returns kinetic energy” to provide more bounce and comfort with every step you take (think: a more cushiony, lightweight sneaker).

Along with Cardi B, Reebok tapped LA Clippers star Montrezl Harrell and Stranger Things actor Noah Schnapp to film their own doorbell runway shows. Schnapp’s version shows the actor and friends pulling up to the door on Stranger Things-style BMX bikes to — literally — drop off a shoe.

“Incredible, hilarious and bizarre content from doorbell cams are being shared and re-shared everyday,” Matt Blonder, VP, Marketing & Digital Brand Commerce at Reebok, said. “We saw an opportunity in that to showcase Zig Kinetica in a completely new, unexpected way.”

Cardi’s runway show might not actually be the strangest clip in the Zig Kinetica campaign. Reebok also tapped MMA fighter Conor McGregor to star in a bizarre commercial for the shoe, where he turns into an action figure who must defeat a Play-Doh-style monster and a crew of creepy cronies. Just… watch it.

Little Rajeiro Lee is already securing his bag, copping a brand new endorsement deal with the Babybop Kids Store located in Half Way Tree. The crew at Babypop were too excited to contain the news and spill the beans on their Instagram page yesterday, marking Raj as the first baby ambassador for the brand. Mom, who is dancehall artiste Shenseea, as mentioned time and time again that he is her light through tough times and her peace and comfort during the good.

With such wonderful superpowers, it’s only natural that Raj got the nod from one of the biggest baby outlets on the island. Raj pulls his own weight to the deal, boasting an impressive tally of over 90k followers on Instagram. Romeich also played a part in the big day of one of his best pals, the label boss helped the young king to secure this major deal. “What a lovely day @romeichent closed @rajeiro__lee first endorsement deal with @babybopstore my papa is a star just like his mom @shenseea,” penned Romeich in the captions.

Ne-Yo has confirmed rumors that he and his wife, Crystal Smith, are ending their marriage after nearly five years.

The “Miss Independent” singer sat down with former adult film star Alexis Texas for her podcast, Private Talk, to discuss details of his life and career, including the revelation that his relationship is coming to an end. Interestingly, while the R&B singer was shedding some light on his pending divorce, his estranged wife, Crystal Smith, was spotted out with Black Ink Crew: Chicago’s star Ryan Henry.

Ne-Yo revealed, “It’s slowly but surely becoming public knowledge that myself and my wife have decided to go ahead and get a divorce…Long story short I’m never going to talk bad about her, I’m not that person. You know, there’s nothing bad to say about her, she’s a fantastic woman. She’s the mother of my children, and she’s always gonna be that, and I will always respect her.”

Ne-Yo and Crystal Smith have two children together, Shaffer Smith Jr. and Roman Alexander-Raj Smith, in addition to Ne-Yo’s two other children from a previous relationship. Videos posted to Crystal’s Instagram story featured her grabbing drinks with “Black Ink Crew: Chicago” star Ryan Henry. Around the same time, Ne-Yo was seen enjoying lunch with some guy friends in Los Angeles, and later inviting some unknown women to join their table. It seems both Ne-yo and Crystal are trying to move on with their lives.

Reggae legend Freddie McGregor became the first recipient of the “Black History Month meets Reggae Icon Award,” which was presented to him during a Reggae Icons awards ceremony, in Miramar, Florida recently.

“I feel really honored to be the recipient of this award… It was a really special evening,” the Big Ship artiste said in an interview with the Jamaica Gleaner newspaper.

The Reggae Icons awards ceremony was held at the Miramar Cultural Banquet Centre, under the patronage of Jamaica’s Entertainment Minister Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange.

“I just sat there soaking it all up, and it hit me that if I were dead I wouldn’t get to experience this moment,” McGregor said in outlining how awed he was by the moment.

McGregor also expressed satisfaction that Reggae Month is now fully recognized, with a myriad of quality activities throughout the period.

“When I looked and saw the amount of things happening for Reggae Month, all I could say is, bwoy, this year mek the ting look like Jamaica really have something going on in the month of February… This is a good look,” he said.

In her address, Grange, who is a former manager of Shabba Ranks, said it is important for all to play a part in the enhancement of Reggae, particularly at a time when the United Nations is commemorating the International Decade for People of African Descent.

The years 2015 to 2024, was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in a Resolution as the International Decade for People of African Descent on 23 December 2013. The theme of the commemoration is “People of African descent: recognition, justice and development.”

Grange said within the Diaspora, the efforts have been placed on engaging stakeholders responsible for the promotion of shows and events, to enable Reggae music to continue providing opportunities for income generation, wealth creation, and the promotion of Black Pride.

The Minister also said her Ministry is putting plans in place to extend activities to New York, Washington, Los Angeles, the UK, and Toronto for next year’s staging of Reggae Month.

Alkaline is coming back with the 2020 edition of his “New Rules” concert.

The Vendetta boss Alkaline has done so few shows here in Jamaica that it has become an occasion for his fans to treat themselves whenever he is performing on the island. The MVP champ recently posted a flyer to his Instagram account, announcing the return of his “New Rules” Concert. The stage is set for the Constant Spring gulf Club and with the event to be held April 25, 2020, the fans are already securing the day to come and party with the “Yardie Fiesta” deejay. One Instagram user wrote, “Listen!!!! Me deh yah suh pan me eye lash!!!!”

The first staging of Alkaline’s New Rules concert was held back in 2017 at the National Stadium’s car park. Based on the shoulder to shoulder arranging of the crowd, it definitely one for the books. The fans who came out sporting Guy Fawkes masks and other Vendetta type gears, uprooted fences, and tore down barriers just to get close to their favorite artiste.

Alkaline made his appearance on stage around 3 in the morning after performances from the likes of Mavado, Jahmeil, Shaggy, and a few other acts. After delivering a number of his hits, he allegedly dipped backstage and made an escape as the crowd grew too aggressive for security personnel to control.

Sadly, for Jamaican fans, the New Rules concert did not make a comeback to the island the following year. The second staging of the show was instead kept at the Amazura night club in Jamaica, Queens, New York.

While a lineup has been shared for the upcoming event in Kingston, Gully fans will be hoping to see Mavado, who has not returned to the island since his run-in with the police and the people of his community Cassava Piece.

This year the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is hosting their 51st annual ceremony. The committee announced that the recipient of the President’s Award this year will be none other than Robin Fenty, professionally known as Rihanna. This coveted award recognizes outstanding achievements and distinguished public service, according to NAACP.

Rihanna has had an outstanding career year in every field that she has ventured into. The island beauty has a successful makeup line, fashion and lingerie line and last year she also became a published author with her self-titled coffee table book. In a statement to the press, the President of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Awards said Rihanna is more than deserving of the honor.

Previous recipients of this award include legends like Muhammad Ali, Spike Lee, Lauryn Hill and most recently Jay Z. The Barbadian singer already won herself an NACCP Award for Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration for her smash hit collaboration with Kendrick Lamar, “Loyalty” in 2018.

The 51st Annual NAACP Awards where Rihanna will be honored with the President’s Award will be held in Pasadena, California. The ceremony will broadcast live on BET on Saturday, February 22 at 8 p.m. EST.

Basketball legend Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna were killed in a helicopter crash on Sunday in Calabasas, Calif., the city's mayor has confirmed. Bryant was 41.

Bryant played for the Los Angeles Lakers for 20 seasons and is considered one of the greatest players in NBA history. Over the course of his storied career he led the Lakers to five championships, was an 18-time All-Star and was the NBA's Most Valuable Player in the 2007-2008 season. He is fourth on the NBA's all-time scoring list and once scored 81 points in a single game, the second-most ever.

Bryant and his daughter were traveling in a Sikorsky S-76B helicopter built in 1991 when it crashed under foggy conditions in the hills above Calabasas. In all, eight passengers and one pilot were killed in the crash, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva.

Orange Coast College head baseball coach John Altobelli, his wife Keri and his daughter Alyssa, were also among the victims, according to a statement from the college.

"The aircraft went down in a remote field off Las Virgenes around 10:00 this morning. Nobody on the ground was hurt," the city of Calabasas wrote on Twitter. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are both investigating, the city said.

"For 20 seasons, Kobe showed us what is possible when remarkable talent blends with an absolute devotion to winning," NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement. "... But he will be remembered most for inspiring people around the world to pick up a basketball and compete to the very best of their ability. He was generous with the wisdom he acquired and saw it as his mission to share it with future generations of players, taking special delight in passing down his love of the game to Gianna."

Across the basketball world on Sunday, words of grief poured in following the news of Bryant's death. Shaquille O'Neal, who won three championships with Bryant while with the Lakers, said there are "no words to express the pain Im [sic] going through with this tragedy of loosing my neice Gigi & my brother."

Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, one of just three people to have scored more career points than Bryant, said he "will always remember him as a man who was much more than an athlete."

Abdul-Jabbar called Bryant "an incredible family man," who "inspired a whole generation of young athletes."

Bryant's death came just hours after another member of the Lakers, LeBron James, passed him on the all-time scoring list. Bryant scored 33,643 points over his career, but was gracious in being passed by James. In a final tweet, he shared a note of congratulations, calling James "my brother."

A native of Philadelphia, Bryant was born on Aug. 23, 1978. His father Joe played eight seasons in the NBA during the 1970s and early '80s. According to the LA Times, Joe Bryant and his wife Pam Cox decided to name their first son Kobe after the city in Japan.

Bryant was drafted into the NBA from high school at age 17. He was selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the 13th pick in the draft, but then traded to the Lakers, where he spent his entire career. That achievement placed Bryant in what ESPN called "an exclusive club" of players to spend two decades with the same team.

Bryant won consecutive NBA titles with the Lakers in 2000, 2001 and 2002 — and then again in 2009 and 2010.

"I think NBA fans are certainly remembering the kind of basketball player Kobe was," NPR's Tom Goldman told Michel Martin on Weekend All Things Considered. "He adopted the nickname "Black Mamba" from the Tarantino movie Kill Bill. It was used as a code name for a deadly assassin known for their agility and aggressiveness, and that is the kind of basketball player Kobe Bryant was. He wasn't like a LeBron James who loves to distribute the ball at key moments. Bryant loved having the ball in his hands, only in his hands in pressure situations, and he mostly delivered in those situations."

Despite his achievements on the court, Bryant's life off the court was not without controversy. In 2003, a 19-year-old woman accused him of raping her. He was charged with sexual assault and false imprisonment. The accuser faced intense scrutiny from the media and a campaign from Bryant's defense team to discredit her. The criminal case ended in 2004 after she decided to not participate in the trial.

Bryant and the accuser settled a civil lawsuit out of court in 2005 with no admission of guilt. He released a statement saying he believed the encounter was consensual, "but I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did."

After his retirement in 2016, Bryant started a production company, Granity Studios. The operation has put out young adult books, a podcast and created the Oscar-winning animated short, Dear Basketball.

He was married to Vanessa Bryant — the two were parents to four daughters.

In retirement, Bryant and his daughter Gianna could occasionally be spotted sitting court side at Lakers games. In a 2018 interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Bryant said Gianna wanted to play in the WNBA "for sure."

"The best thing that happens is when we go out and fans will come up to me and she'll be standing next to me and they'll be like, 'Hey you got to have a boy, you and V gotta have a boy ... someone to carry on the tradition, the legacy," Bryant told Kimmel. He said Gianna would interrupt and respond, "I got this."

Koffee just made history by becoming the youngest solo act and only female ever to win a Grammy for Best Reggae Album.

The day we all knew would come is finally here, and Jamaica is celebrating a huge win for one of its biggest superstars. Koffee, whose real name is Mikayla Simpson, just won her first Grammy in the category of Best Reggae Album for her “Rapture” EP. The 19-year-old reggae star is not only the youngest solo act and the only female astiste ever to win the coveted award in this category, she is also the youngest Jamaican ever to win a Grammy.

Koffee set the music scene alight when she dropped off the lead single from her debut EP in November 2018. “Toast,” which has never been more appropriate, was the smash hit that turned Koffee into a chart-topping success across the globe.

The young songstress has already earned bragging rights for making it onto previous President of the United States – Barack Obama’s summer and favorites from 2019 playlists as well as getting her songs featured on social media by the likes of Rihanna, Lil Uzi Vert and many more. Now Koffee boasts the iconic Recording Academy Award and a record to go with it.

When it was first announced that Koffee was nominated for a Grammy in late 2018, many believed it was a sure win for the teenage superstar, and they were right.

Koffee’s grace and modesty continue to precede her even as she was announced as the recipient of this year’s Best Reggae Album Grammy. After accepting the prestigious trophy, the reggae singer thanked all the producers who made her project possible, as well as her fellow nominees for setting the path. Koffee maintained her composure even as her warm smile radiated from her countenance upon hearing her name announced on the Recording Academy stage. The reggae star who was formally clad in a black and white suit and long jacket, exuded gratitude and humbleness as usual when she collected the award and gave her speech. One fan on Twitter could not help but point out how composed and mature the 19-year-old star is for her age.

“Koffee’s winning speech was so regal and well poised. Been around her and nah lie her composure well beyond her years it’s almost creepy lol,” the fan wrote.

We are absolutely ecstatic to say Koffee is a Grammy-winning artiste! “Toast” to that.

Sony’s Bad Boys For Life kept the heat on in its sophomore session at the international box office. The weekend was worth $42M in 58 markets for an offshore cume of $95M, bringing global to $215M. The overseas drop was just 39% in the holdover hubs.

Following last week’s debut, the well-received Will Smith/Martin Lawrence threequel collared another record as the biggest opening of the 25-year-old franchise in the new group of 19 markets. Among No. 1 starts were Russia, France and Netherlands. The UK leads all play at $10.7M to date. Brazil, Japan and Italy are still on deck through next month.

The offshore and worldwide standings would have looked a lot different this week, but a shift brought on by the coronavirus epidemic in China shuffled the deck. On Thursday last week, it emerged that all local film releases scheduled for the highly lucrative Chinese New Year period were pulled (both at home and abroad) amid the escalating crisis. That resulted in no record-breaking openings as had previously been expected in the Middle Kingdom. Certainly, the most important thing to consider here is the human factor as Chinese authorities made the prudent decision to shelve the Lunar New Year movies in an effort to prevent the spread of the disease. However, as we detailed last week, this is expected to mean a $1B+ blow to global box office for 2020.

Movie theaters were forced to close this weekend in China and it is not yet known when they will reopen. The impact on Hollywood is also not yet clear. A backlog of local product in the market likely portends a stand-off for screens once things, hopefully, settle. Some studio releases could be shifted while future dates could be shorter in coming so that homegrown titles continue to excel.

It’s understood that this weekend new openings for the studios in SE Asia were pretty much on target with expectations from before the virus news. Holdovers, as noted below, ended up benefiting somewhat as the CNY movies did not release anywhere thus making more screens available. Hong Kong, however, was hit across the board. And Korea had its own homegrown breakout during the holiday with The Man Standing Next.

Usain Bolt is about to be a proud father soon. The famous couple made the announcement in A-list fashion with a gorgeous pregnancy reveal photoshoot. In the beautiful pictures that they shared online, Kasi was styled in a stunning multilayered red dress that accentuates her beautiful bump.

The images taken by professional photographer Adrian McDonald otherwise known as The Magician were captured on a beach and on a yacht.

Kasi Bennett took to Instagram to share the reel with the caption, “Our biggest blessing.” In her second post, she wrote, “Our greatest celebration” alongside a photo of her flared red dress cascading over the bow of the yacht as she holds a festival of balloons above her head. In the final post that she shared, the marketing director said, “Our golden child Coming soon.”

Usain Bolt also took to social media to share one of the snapshots that saw Kasi on the beach at sunset, cradling her bump with one hand as she showed off the layers of her dress with the other, revealing her flawless legs and curvature. Bolt captioned the jaw-dropping photo, “I just want to say a KING or QUEEN is about to be HERE.”

While the couple did not reveal much else besides the fact that they are expecting, it’s safe to say that Kasi is at least three months pregnant based on the size of her bump and because it is the norm for a woman to at least wait until she has ended her first trimester to make an announcement.

Now that he and Kasi Bennett have been together for over 6 years, some fans are speculating that they might have already secretly tied the knot based on the Olympic superstar athlete’s viewpoints on making everything right before having three kids. Beyoncé is coming under fire from fans and Lizzo for shutting out plus size females out of her Ivy Park collaboration with Adidas.

Beyoncé’s now sold out Ivy Park collection has sparked all sorts of mass hysteria with fans standing hours in long lines, and waiting days in online wait rooms to snag items from the highly anticipated release. Celebrities even joined in on the “fandemonium” by recording and sharing stylish unboxing videos to their social media pages. Everyone from Ellen DeGeneres, Meg Thee Stallion, La La Anthony, to teen star Yara Shahidi shared their mobile orange and maroon closet.

But with great success comes great controversy, quickly followers noted that mega-star Lizzo was not gifted a customized Ivy Park box (initially). And many began to take issue with the fact that the brand didn’t go up to plus sizes. Currently, Ivy Park offers items in sizes XS to XL, and some of her own fans are clearly not happy about that. This pretty much means that the size range is the same as 0 to 2 up to 16 to 18 in US dress size, per Adidas.

Fans instantly accused Bey of excluding plus-size women, which goes against so much of Beyoncé’s messaging.

That’s where Lizzo comes in. She recently posted to her Instagram wearing an orange two-piece negligee piece (Savage X Fenty), an Ivy Park bomber, and Adidas runners from the collection. Except when she opened what appeared to be an Ivy Park maroon and orange box, clothes weren’t inside. A “friend” and creative director, Quinn Wilson, wearing an Ivy Park jumpsuit, jumped out, and the now-infamous “This is for Rachel” voicemail began to play.

“This is for Rachel you big fat white nasty smelling fat b***h why you took me off the mothaf**kin schedule withca trifling dirty white racist a** big fat b***h.”

Beyonce’s supporters aren’t exactly sure what to make of the video. Was the “Truth Hurts” star celebrating her items, or was this a sneak diss to the athletic fashion line? Technically, Lizzo is “promoting” the items, but by mixing in an item from Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty line, and playing the “This is Rachel” voicemail in the background of the video the Beyhive is a little unclear on the star’s intentions.

To make an already confusing matter worse, Lizzo followed up her initial Instagram post with a very graphic Tik Toc video, also in what appears to be Ivy Park apparel. In the video, Lizzo is seen pretending to give a man some sloppy toppy in her Ivy Park items. Strange right?

Lizzo’s social media antics have left many fans a bit confused and with questions… will there be a second release coming with more size options? And is Lizzo a fan of the new line, or not?

Reggae singer Romain Virgo and his wife Elizabeth are expecting their first child!

Congratulations are in order for the married couple who celebrated their first wedding anniversary last September. Mr. and Mrs. Virgo have announced that they are expecting their first bundle of joy. Like everything else, Romain Virgo made the announcement with a special photoshoot he posted to Instagram. It seems the happy couple has a photoshoot to mark every memorable occasion from their engagement to the marriage and now their pregnancy.

Taking to Instagram to share the happy news, Romain shared a photo of him and his wife dressed in the positive color of light, faith, and beginnings. Elizabeth’s white flower crown was beautifully placed atop her crown as her pearl white dress neatly hugged her pregnant figure, and she and her husband cradled her baby bump. Romain’s white shirt was giving off one of those “obviously new” kinda fresh vibes with not a blemish or crease in sight. In the caption, the singer wrote, “Counting all my blessings… Name them one by one… So much joy surrounds me… It’s second to none,” he said.

Other artists and Jamaican celebrities were happy to cheers to Romain and Elizabeth on their new baby, including TV personality and former beauty queen Yendi Phillips who commented on the post with confetti emojis to say congratulations.

Also extending their congrats to the new parents were dancehall artistes Tifa and Kemar Highcon as well as singers Phyllisia Ross and Naomi Cowan who seemed to have an inside joke going with the reggae singer writing, “saving all my jokes for this one!!”

So its official – our young “Rising Star” is going to be a dad. The singer has come a very far way since he came out on top of the popular local talent competition show when he was 17 years old. Romain will be celebrating his 30th birthday this week. Congratulations again to the happy couple!
